HANA stands for “High Performance Analytic Appliance”. The in-memory database SAP HANA accelerates your existing business processes through functional and algorithmic components. Other SAP components and modules can use their properties. This enables you, for example, to carry out ad hoc planning and simulation runs or direct reporting of operational data.

Goals and successes of SAP HANA

SAP HANA is more than a fast database. Migration to HANA describes the process of switching from any database system currently used with SAP to the HANA database. After this migration, SAP HANA is the main database. It offers you different opportunities and advantages:

  • Due to the in-memory architecture, SAP HANA enables short computing times even for computationally intensive algorithms. Topics such as predictive maintenance or big data no longer pose challenges.

  • Reduction in the number and size of databases and the resulting simplification of the system environment.

  • The effort required for data comparisons and between systems is reduced.

  • Cloud availability and therefore high scalability

  • SAP HANA is like a web-based application server that hosts user-facing applications. Many applications are provided by partners in the SAP HANA Cloud, meaning countless external developments can be used.

SAP HANA: Cloud or own hosting on-premise?

SAP HANA was developed by SAP as a cloud solution. But an on-premise installation is also possible. This option offers the greatest degree of customizability, as everything can be shaped and expanded as you wish. If you want sovereignty over your data and processes, this is a good option. But hybrid solutions can also be implemented.
